Violin Lessons in Shelby Township.
Kawai Music Lesson Studios offers private violin lessons at our studio on 23 Mile Rd in Shelby Township, for students age 5 and up. Lessons are 30 minutes, once a week, with times available six days a week, and online lessons are available too. Our string teachers work on tone, intonation and technique every week, and they bring each student’s favorite music into the lesson, from classical and folk to pop, jazz and even some fiddle. Families come to us from Shelby Township, Sterling Heights, Rochester and Washington Township. Book a free studio tour to meet our string teachers.
Viola Lessons
Viola students build the same strong foundations as violinists, including bow control, intonation and note reading, and they also learn to read alto clef, the clef most viola music is written in. Viola lessons are a good fit for students who play in a school orchestra and want one-on-one attention. Students who enjoy playing with others can ask about our group violin and viola classes
Cello Lessons
Cello lessons cover posture, bowing and left-hand technique, with music chosen to match each student’s goals, from orchestra pieces to popular songs. Students can start cello at age 5, and every student is welcome to perform in our free recitals.
Help for School Orchestra Students
Private lessons give orchestra students time with a teacher who is focused only on their playing. Students can bring the music they’re working on at school, and rental instruments are available for families who don’t have an instrument yet

If you enroll here for string lessons, your teacher will ask you about your favorite type of music, and set goals to help accomplish whatever musical aspirations you have for yourself or your child. Together, you will develop a plan to achieve your goals! We love beginners, so even if you don't know where to begin, we can help!

Our string instructors are highly qualified, all have teaching experience, and most importantly, they have a passion for teaching. Being a musician doesn't automatically make you a teacher--that's why we search for those who are best qualified for mentoring our music students!
We search the entire area for the top teachers, who embody our high values. Most importantly, our instructors strive to relate their teaching to each individual student's learning style. Many of our instructors have gone on performance tours of the USA and Europe and have years of professional performance and teaching experience. HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO LEARN TO PLAY VIOLIN OR CELLO?
There is no set answer on how long it takes to learn to play. With regular practice, a basic level of playing can be accomplished in a few months. Most of our students take lessons on a long-term basis because they want to be constantly improving and they find the lessons enjoyable.
I DON’T HAVE ANY MUSICAL BACKGROUND OR ABILITY. CAN I STILL HELP MY CHILD PRACTICE?
Yes. Even if you don't have a musical background you can ask the teacher for advice on how to help your child practice. By simply monitoring that they are doing exercises a certain number of times per day the student will progress. Parents will occasionally sit in on their child's music lesson to get an idea of the proper way a song should sound or how the student should be positioning their hands.
Violin or cello: which is better for my child?
Both can start at age 5. Many children choose the one whose sound they like best. Book a free tour and our teachers can help you decide.
Do you teach fiddle?
Yes. Our string teachers teach many styles, from classical and folk to pop, jazz and some fiddle.
